Local Audit.

The examination of the Revenue Accounts was

conducted, under my direction, by the Local Auditor, a copy

of whose Report, dated 28th January 1896, is appended

hereto. He reports that great improvement has been made

in the collection of Revenue during 1895.

The authority for writing off the irrecoverable arrears of Squatters' Licenses, amounting to $72,426,

referred to in paragraph 2 of the Local Auditor's Report,

was furnished to the Governor in Despatch No. 44 of 22nd

February 1896.

With reference to the delay by the Postal

Agent at Hankow in forwarding Accounts and Remittances to

Hong Kong, alluded to by the Local Auditor in paragraph 18
